About Fritz's Adventure

Building Muscles, Minds, and Bonds

Fritz’s Adventure began when a contractor and his family started to imagine what they could build from construction equipment and materials. It wasn’t just cool, explorable, climb-on-able contraptions. They saw what happens when families stay together to play together.

It’s magic.

And it’s science. Studies shout it from the rooftops. We do it in 80,000 square feet of physical challenges designed for adventurers of all levels and ages. Spending time playing together strengthens family bonds. When physical activity is a family priority, it creates a foundation for lifetime health. It gets us away from screens and the negativity that they have a tendency to spread. Playing together and doing physical activities also supports a child’s participation in sports.

As adults, it has these benefits for physical, mental, and emotional health. So play. Have fun! Let the kids lead the way—they have great ideas for adventures! We applaud you, and we’ll be here whenever you want to make more “magic.”

Contact Fritz’s Adventure, and let’s plan an adventure your family will remember for a lifetime.

Our Story

Fritz's Via Ferrata

Families want to find a fun activity everyone can do together. Fritz’s Via Ferrata outdoor climbing wall in Branson, MO, gives your family maximum climbing fun up to 50 feet in the air!

Via Ferrata allows you to experience the great outdoors. Tall or short, big or small, young or old, it’s time to rise to new heights. This outdoor adventure is safe and fun and requires no previous experience. And the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking!

What does "Via Ferrata" mean?

Our Via Ferrata climbing wall is named after the Italian term “via ferrata,” which means “iron way.” The reason for this is that climbing paths are created using metal (in this case, rebar) embedded in the wall’s face.

Via ferrata climbing paths are popular in Europe. You’ll find them across the mountains in Italy (of course), Switzerland, Romania, Austria, the Julian Alps in Slovenia, the Maritime Alps in France, and many other beautiful mountain areas.

Via ferratas are also quite popular in the United States.  Fritz’s Via Ferrata was inspired by a family trip to Mt. Ogden in Utah where the Fritz’s founders created a WOW Moment climbing there. With that inspiration, they built our outdoor climbing wall in Branson here at Fritz’s Adventure!

History of Via Ferrata Climbing

Via ferrata climbing paths have existed for centuries in the Alps. This massive mountain chain that stretches across central-southern Europe for 750 miles, crossing through Switzerland, Monaco, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

The classic via ferrata iron paths consisted of iron spikes and/or pins, hand hooks, and more driven into the living rock. Local inhabitants used these paths to reach higher grasslands.

In the mid-1800s, via ferratas began to include the presence of ropes for further safety and ease during climbing, and they became much more accessible for “common” people to use. In WW1, via ferratas were created to help soldiers reach their high-up outposts on peaks of the Alps. These still exist and are utilized by climbing enthusiasts to this day.

Via Ferrata for Today

Today’s via ferratas include both the challenge of the rock climbing sport and the safety features that make the experience—and the thrill—much more accessible.

First, there are the steps/supports. These can include large singular spikes or pins jutting out of the rock face to be used as handles or steps. Also, many via ferratas have rebar driven into the rock and bent to resemble the rungs of a ladder.

For safety, metal cables run alongside these paths. The cables have been affixed to the rock wall by metal anchors (bolts, spikes, pitons). Climbers usually attach their safety harnesses, via special carabiners, to the cables.

Climbing Technique for Via Ferrata

Though our Via Ferrata outdoor climbing wall in Branson, MO, is not quite as rigorous as some of the sheer mountain ranges where they exist across the world, this Fritz’s Adventure version still requires some technique to see the wonderful view from the top—and to achieve the feeling of accomplishment from realizing that, yes, you can do this!

  1. You’ll wear a safety harness that you will attach to our support cables along your chosen Via Ferrata path. Helmets protect your head while you focus on maneuvering up and around the Via Ferrata
  2. You’ll keep 3 points of contact (2 hands/1 foot, or 2 feet/1 hand) in contact with the Via Ferrata supports at all times. This keeps you steady, supported, and ready to take that next step or move your carabiners up past the next support bolt/piton.
  3. You’ll receive training from ceritified guides on how to use the Via Ferrata supports most efficiently and effectively for your climb to the top.

Our Via Ferrata Makes Memories for a Lifetime!

Though your vacation in Branson will end, your family’s memories of sharing thrilling adventures—including climbing a 5-story-tall outdoor wall together—will last for the rest of your life. It’s a rewarding accomplishment, it’s a blast to do, and the memory of having shared this adventure will be priceless in the years to come!
